Elmer Miller Spurs
Elmer Miller was born in Winnemucca, Nevada in 1914. Elmer Miller was a man who learned the trade of silversmithing and bit and spur making from one of the Masters of the previous generation, Filo Gutierrez. From the 1960s through his death he was well known for the work he produced out of his Nampa, Idaho shop. Maybe more importantly, he is remembered for the school he started there in the mid 1980s to teach the tradition of fine hand-made bits and spurs so that it would not be forgotten. Many of the best bit and spur makers today spent time at his school and shop and in many respects he is the father of Modern spur making today as he helped teach or influence most of the skilled craftsmen working today.
